Beware of Law Societies
Generally when you call a law society referral service, you get the next lawyer on the list based on where you live.
Take it or leave it. They will only give you one name and that even could be a disbarred lawyer who has been reinstated.
YES LAW SOCIETIES EVEN REINSTATE DISBARRED LAWYERS.
The Law Society of BC says that law society referrals are a conflict of interest and so did not offer one until recently.
Strangely they started offering referrals recently despite their belief that it is a conflict of interest.
Remember Law Societies are essentially unions for lawyers. They protect lawyers from consumers, not consumers from lawyers.
CanLaw started FREE online Lawyer Referrals in Canada and the law societies could no longer charge people for referrals.
The Law Society or Upper Canada attacks CanLaw because we cost them a huge amount of fees (about $300,000 year) charged to people seeking referrals.
