BEWARE OF GEEKS BEARING GIFS.
GIFS are a type of graphic. Animations, videos, huge graphics, sound effects, frames, blinkers and all the other "cool" gimmicks, that advertising amateurs seem to love so much, tend to annoy the reader and actually detract from your message. They also slow down loads so much that your potential client may move on before your page is loaded. That would be a disaster. They won't come back. Ever.
Your Web site should be the best and hardest working sales rep you have. It is working for, or against, your business all day, all night, all year long. It must generate a positive response in your viewer. It is not enough to post clever graphics and special effects unless you have something real to say to your clients.
Leave the sophomoronic tricks to the novices . . . unless there is very good reason to include special effects. But you have to first know the rules, before you break them.
YOU NEED A COPY WRITER,
NOT A PROGRAMMER
Combining all these disparate items requires the skill of a communications specialist. It requires creative consistency with not only all the other pages on your site, but with all your other corporate graphics, advertising and identity. The actual "HTML coding" of a web site is simple. It is really just markup tags, similar to early word processors.
A computer programmer or expert, a "bricklayer" if you will, simply does not have the all round advertising, copy and graphic design skills to effectively sell or promote your products and services.
You also need an "architect," an advertising expert and experimented copy writer to plan, coordinate and create your website. CanLaw Inc. has both.
